Survey Design
Our firm has extensive experience in conducting surveys.
Click here for examples of HR sectoral surveys. Each
survey is unique and requires a good under-
standing of what information is required
by the client, what are the challenges
in collecting this information, and
how this information will be
helpful. We provide here
an overview of the
five main stages
of conducting
a survey.
Client Need Assessment
The first priority is understanding the
needs of the client. This stage may be
complemented by a review of existing
studies, interviews with key informants,
and focus groups.

Questionnaire Design
The focus here is identifying key
questions and making sure respondents
will be able to respond easily and
correctly. One of the elements here is
testing the questionnaire with few
Survey Implementation
This stage involves developing the
sampling frame (e.g. Dun & Braddstreet
for business surveys; Environics for
household surveys); sampling design
(e.g. proportional or stratified); field
work by phone, in person, or by mail.
Statistical Analysis
Next, the responses are inputted,
edited, and weighted. Key
demographics are validated against
external data and the final database
is analyzed using SPSS.
Report and Validation
A report is prepared and results are
presented with PowerPoint. Often
results and their implications are
validated through focus groups or a
validation conference.
